About Motherly Prayers

The story behind the prayers

Hi, I'm Mama Raya — and Motherly Prayers started the way most meaningful things do: out of a deep personal need.

A few years ago, I was a mother of young children, working part-time, trying to hold everything together — and feeling quietly disconnected from God. I'd been raised in the church. I knew the Bible. But somewhere in the rush of laundry and school pickups and sleepless nights, my prayer life had become inconsistent, hurried, and honestly, a little rote.

I started writing prayers for myself. Not polished, theological essays — just honest conversations with God about the exact thing I was facing that day. When I was overwhelmed, I wrote a prayer for overwhelm. When I was grateful, I wrote one for gratitude. When I didn't know how to pray, I wrote one for that too.

I shared a few with a friend going through a hard season. She passed one to her sister. Her sister shared it in a Facebook group. Before I knew it, thousands of women were reading these prayers and writing back to tell me how much it meant to them.

That's when I knew this wasn't just for me.

Every prayer on this site is written with the same spirit I started with: honest, simple, scripture-grounded, and meant to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you're celebrating or grieving, overwhelmed or at peace — there's a prayer here for you.

My prayer for you is that you'd feel less alone in your faith, more connected to God's presence in your everyday moments, and encouraged that the God who holds the universe also holds your heart.

With love and faith,
Mama Raya
