The prophet Elijah once fled into the wilderness, afraid and exhausted, believing he was completely alone. Sitting under a broom tree, he prayed that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life.” Yet God did not abandon him. An angel touched him, bringing bread and water, saying, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” Strengthened by that food, Elijah traveled forty days to Mount Horeb, where he encountered God not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper. In that stillness, Elijah realized he was never forsaken — God was with him all along. (1 Kings 19:1–12, ESV).
